my life: meet josie

I am lucky to be engaged to a man who has an amazing family, and I love seeing great things happen for them. His parents recently adopted a 4-year-old beagle-mix named Josie. This event was especially exciting because (a) it's exciting when anyone gains a furry family member, (b) this furry family member happens to be a dog whose part beagle, and (c) it's the first time Dan's mom has ever had a dog! I got to meet Josie a couple weeks ago, and she is ADORABLE. Her and Madison are already fast friends.

P.S. If you think this video Dan made excellently showcases her cuteness, you should see her in person!

In case I haven't made it clear on this blog, I adore the Muppets. This new commercial for Google+ (featured during the 2012 Academy Awards) just puts me in a fantastic mood. Watch it and I dare you not to smile!

I really only watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and the halftime show (and unless the Browns make it any time soon, those will probably remain my reasons!). My dog, Madison, loves her leash. It's her favorite thing in the whole world. It's like her security blanket. Last week, I decided to see what happened if I took Madison's leash and clipped it onto the collar my family's dog, Sasha. Watch the video to find out! : )

This past weekend I came across this long, but beautiful and goofy live version of Jason Mraz's hit, "I'm Yours." I love it! Mr. Mraz has definitely been added to my "artists/bands I want to see in concert" list : )

Okay, so I am pretty sure am a bit behind the times with this song, but I recently just heard it on the radio for the first time, and now I am obsessed. Sad but so beautiful. After I heard this song, I looked up all of The Band Perry's other official videos on YouTube and really enjoyed them. I've decided I'm buying myself their album when week one of Get Fit Get Strong is complete : )

rube goldberg would be jealous

My junior year of high school I took physics, and one of our huge assessments was a Rube Goldberg project (the end result opening a pop can). I think my partner Katie and I did a pretty decent job with our project - as I remember, it involved an "easy button" and a lot of sand - but imagine if we had created something like the video above! Just AWESOME!

Today is a big day for me...it's the Teacher Job Fair at my university! Today's post is in part to inspire and pump me up for the job fair, and in part just because I think it's a great video. In the current controversy over teachers' unions and public school funding, it remind us what education's main focus ultimately needs to be - motivating students and making a difference in their lives. ***Disclaimer: There is some swearing in this video.

gm & gratitude

The GM commercial embedded below was released this past holiday season. It came on while I was watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and totally caught me off guard - I actually started tearing up. In my opinion, liking the commercial has nothing to do with whether or not you supported GM receiving a major government bailout. It has to do with failing, trying again, being supported in your efforts to succeed, and expressing gratitude for that support. Last week with being sick, and this week with trying to catch up on things, I'm feeling pretty darn grateful for the people and the support I have in my life. What are you grateful for this week?

oscars recap

So here it is, a couple days late - my mini-Oscars recap. It's mini for a couple reasons: 1) I've been pretty sick this week, and 2) I didn't actually get to watch the Oscars. I don't have a digital TV or cable, so I don't get TV reception.

Here is the complete list of Oscar winners. I was very displeased The Social Network did not win Best Picture or Best Director - I thought it was the best movie of the year. To be fair, though, I didn't see The King's Speech. Did anyone see both of them? If so, which of those two did you think deserved the award? Were there any awards you were particularly happy or upset about? I was definitely pleased Social Network won Best Score and Toy Story 3 won Best Animated Feature.

Of course, I must mention the fashion of the evening! Picks and some more picks for best Oscar gowns of 2011 - Mila Kunis, Reese Witherspoon, and Amy Adams were my favorites. And just for fun - a slideshow of best Oscar gowns ever (I love the looks of Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway). What gowns did you love from this year? From years past?
