In case I haven't made it clear on this blog, I adore the Muppets. This new commercial for Google+ (featured during the 2012 Academy Awards) just puts me in a fantastic mood. Watch it and I dare you not to smile!

LOL: favorite super bowl 2012 commercials

I really only watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and the halftime show (and unless the Browns make it any time soon, those will probably remain my reasons!). As a animal lover, of course the commercials I liked best from this year's crop all involved dogs. Here there are - I guarantee they'll brighten your Wednesday!

My dog, Madison, loves her leash. It's her favorite thing in the whole world. It's like her security blanket. Last week, I decided to see what happened if I took Madison's leash and clipped it onto the collar my family's dog, Sasha. Watch the video to find out! : )

LOL: when i grow up...

The photo above is of a journal I had in elementary school, in which I said my favorite subject was citizenship (social studies) and that I wanted to be teacher. I also wanted to be, at some point in my K-12 years: a ballerina, ice skater, author, independent coffeeshop owner, psychologist, lawyer, filmmaker, and journalist. Teaching was the career I kept returning to. As a result...I am currently finishing up my bachelor's degree in education : )

I think a person's career/career goals say a lot about what they enjoy and what they care about, which is probably why teachers often ask students what they want to do when they grow up. If you haven't guessed it yet, I have another set of elementary kids' opinions for you today! The following answers were responses to the question what do you think you would like to do for a living when you grow up?

Student responses...

• "When I grow up I want to be a psychologist and report the weather so I can warn people when bad weather is coming."
• "When I grow up I want to be a police officer because they can speed and they have cars with hidden sirens for the undercover police officers."
• ‎"I think I would like to be a professional athlete when I grow up because I would be able to raise money to donate to charity."
• "What I will do for a living is I will make the world a better place."
• "When I grow up I will be a lawyer because I like to help people and you get a lot of money."
• "When I grow up I want to be a teacher because I want kids to be extra smart."
• "I think what I will be doing for a living is I will be a teacher because I love to teach. (That is why I always grade myself. I am getting ready to be a teacher.)"

Aren't the students' responses inspiring? They just fuel my desire to be teacher and help students reach their goals.

Remember a couple months ago when I posted about elementary school kids' thoughts on a pet cheetah? Well, my dear teacher friend recently shared another question and response set with me. The question this time was: "If you could change any school rule, what would it be?"

Student responses...

• "If I could change any school rule it would be no homework on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday."
• ‎"If I could change any school rule I would change 30 minutes of recess to have an hour of recess because I want more time to play tag."
• "If I could change any rule in school it would be to have an extra recess whenever we want to."
• "If I could change any school rule it would be that every grade gets a break at 2:30 pm."
• "If I could change a school rule I say we can have recess for the whole school day."
• "If I could change a school rule it would be that everybody could go to the gym whenever they want to."
• ‎"If I could change any school rule it would be the no talking rule because I always get in trouble for talking."
• "If I could change a school rule it would be to have lunch for free because if kids don't have money they will still get lunch." [This sweet student was unaware many students at the school already benefit from free/reduced lunch]
• "If I could change any school rule it would be the one about running in the hall." [My teacher friend assures me this student meant running in the hall should be allowed]

Hello everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start. Mine is busy but going well!

A dear friend of mine teaches elementary school and recently asked her students about keeping cheetahs as pets. Here was the exact question and some of the students' responses:

Do you think that is a good law that now prevents cheetahs from being kept as pets? Tell why or why not.

• "Yes, I think it is a good law that cheetahs are not pets because they might kill you."
• ‎"Yes, I think it's a good law because if you have a baby it might wake it up when it is sleeping."
• ‎"Yes, I think it is a good law because some cheetahs may eat people."
• ‎"Yes, I think it is a good law because they will need to be outside for so long that they will run away and it is going to be hard to catch them because cheetahs are very fast cats. They can run faster than you."
• "Yes, I think it is a good law that prevents cheetahs from being kept as pets because the cheetahs could eat all the meat in you house."
• "Yes, I think it is a good law because you might forget to feed it."
• "No, I don't think it is a good law because cheetahs are good protectors."
• "I think they should not have that law because cheetahs can ride kids to school quickly."

LOL: monday pick-me-up

Hello, everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. I did : ) What all did you do? I hung out with my friends, saw my godchildren open their Christmas presents, watched a movie with my family, went back to school, unpacked, got coffee at a fun new place, and worked.

Is your week off to a good start? Mine is off to a bit of a rough one. This morning was student teaching orientation, which was somewhat overwhelming. I found this today, and it made me laugh out loud. So if anyone else needs a bit of a pick-me-up or just wants to laugh, check this video out:
