LOL: favorite super bowl 2012 commercials

I really only watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and the halftime show (and unless the Browns make it any time soon, those will probably remain my reasons!). As a animal lover, of course the commercials I liked best from this year's crop all involved dogs. Here there are - I guarantee they'll brighten your Wednesday!

my life: recent happenings via instagram

First three photos: My friend Elizabeth's cute papillon puppy, Rosie (she's 2.5 pounds!); Madison in a basket of blankets; cuddling with my family's dog Sasha while watching Wheel of Fortune with my parents. Middle three photos: fantastic Melt Quesadilla appetizer Dan & I shared on our first trip to Melt Bar & Grilled; my delicious BBQ chicken grilled cheese from Melt; yummy cake from Resch's Bakery, courtesy of my future-in-laws, to celebrate Dan & I's engagement (and in our wedding colors!). Last three photos: Dan & I before his indoor soccer game; Dan knocking down an opponent player while playing; booty from my weekend trip to Target.

Sorry I've been a bit absent lately. (I also apologize if there are formatting issues while viewing this post - some browsers aren't displaying it correctly) The end of the swim season accompanied with subbing and traveling often has taken some toll on my spare time, which has been spent with family and friends with little leftover time for blogging. What have you all been up to lately?

use it: usps 2012 stamps

Hello, everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty great! I had Starbucks with a friend Friday night, spent literally all of the day Saturday at the conference championship meet with my swimmers (who did AWESOME!), and went to a bridal fair on Sunday.

I really enjoy "snail mail," for various reasons, and this week I plan on sending several cards and letters. Have you seen any of the United States Postal Service's 2012 stamps? I'm excited to head down to the post office and pick up some. My favorite ones are:

Cherry Blossom Centennial

Dogs at Work

Mail a Smile (Disney Pixar)

Bicycling

Earthscapes: Natural

William H. Johnson

Heart Health

Frank Capra

The War of 1812: USS Constitution

Santa and Sleigh

Do you enjoy sending cards and letters to friends? Which of these stamps or other ones listed at the link above do you like?

weekend wrap-up

This was a perfect fall weekend! Friday I left to visit Dan in Columbus, and that evening we had an amazing dinner at The Wine Guy. Afterwards, we ate ice cream and watched Paranormal Activity (which totally freaked me out!). Saturday afternoon Dan and I went shopping and out for lunch. In the evening, we all ate cake in celebration of Dan's father's birthday. (Also on Saturday, my alma mater won in football! Ay Ziggy Zoomba!) Sunday morning we ate pancakes and relaxed. In the afternoon we carved pumpkins, made caramel apples, drank apple cider, and went for a walk with Madison. Then I headed home to Cleveland. My family and I ate our last made-on-the-grill meal of the year, sat around a fire to chat, and ate pumpkin mousse pie and homemade apple crisp. Tell me about your weekend : )

Clockwise from top left:

Dan and I before dinner Friday night; Madison in the bat Halloween costume we bought her Saturday afternoon; pumpkin spice coffee and birthday cake; Dan and I with our pumpkins (a cat and a bat); caramel apple and apple cider with a goofy Halloween straw; sitting around the fire with my family back home Sunday night.

weekly gems

Hello, everyone! How was your week? Mine has been great! I spent it visiting Dan and his family in Columbus. We drank coffee and ate ice cream from our favorite places, made chocolate covered bananas, played catch, kicked around a soccer ball, ate out at an awesome fish and chips place, went for walks, and just generally relaxed around the house. One of the highlights of the week was when Dan got me an early birthday present - Martin the Monkey, featured up above. We made him together at Build-A-Bear Workshop before seeing a movie (the review of which will be posted next week). Please note Martin's Indians uniform in honor of my favorite Cleveland sports team (who are doing AWESOME this season - knock on wood!).

Do you have big plans for this weekend? I'll be getting certified in CPR and moving more things from my apartment to my parents' home. I hope your weekend is not as busy and a bit more entertainment-oriented! Or that you at least have time to browse some of the awesome links below. See you next week! : )

monday munchies

Hello, everyone! How was your weekend? Mine was great - I saw the Indians win Friday night (Hafner hit a walk-off home run!), had fun at a work meeting for my summer job (lifeguarding), watched ridiculous TV shows on Netflix (Airwolf, anyone?), saw a musical at my former high school (West Side Story), and enjoyed Starbucks (frappucino happy hour!).

Lately, I have really been wanting to bake, but can't due to some issues with the oven. When everything is fixed up, I can't wait to try out new recipes! I particularly want to try some peanut butter and chocolate ones like the ones below.

I'll start off with something a bit basic, like these chocolate peanut butter whoopie pies.

Then I'll move on to this chocolate peanut butter cake.

And finally, someday, I'll bake something as beautiful and yummy-looking as this chocolate peanut butter cheesecake.

What are some of your favorite chocolate and peanut butter recipes?

weekly gems

Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a good week. Mine was pretty decent - stressful at times, but certainly enjoyable at others. It definitely made me relate to the print above! I'm very excited for this weekend, not because of any major plans, but just to have some days off to be super productive and relax with my boyfriend, dog, and friends. What are your plans for this weekend?

weekend wrap-up & the holiday season

isn't she just the cutest?! under the tree at the boyfriend's house

Hello, everyone! I hope you had a great weekend! I did - I shopped (got some of the boyfriend's presents!), hung out with my cousin, visited my grandma, watched the Ohio State/Michigan game (GO BUCKS!), did a good deal of homework, watched The Holiday (one of my favorite movies - great story, romance, comedy, awesome actors/acting, Christmas, etc.), had a second Thanksgiving dinner with my parents and sister, and went back to school early-ish to work on more homework and run some errands.

Now that the holiday season is fully and officially upon us, I am definitely looking forward to some specific seasonal activities, like:
  • Decorating!!!
  • Hot chocolate of every flavor
  • Holiday specials & movies on TV
  • Candy canes
  • Snow days
  • Holiday music
  • It's A Wonderful Life, Holiday Inn, White Christmas, & Scrooged - on DVD, uninterrupted
  • Shopping! and just generally being in shopping locations, fully decorated, and filled with people
  • Making paper snowflakes
  • Making the dogs wear reindeer antlers
  • Christmas cookie baking
  • Christmas cards
  • Holiday get-togethers with family and friends
  • People smiling more & giving back
  • Tons of little special traditions

And so much more!!

What did you do this weekend? What are you looking forward to this holiday season?
